Ethical Considerations
This challenge operates within the established scientific framework of using mice models for basic neuroscience research. Mice models are widely used in neuroscience because they allow one to study fundamental biological mechanisms in a controlled way while adhering to ethical guidelines for animal research. The goal of this challenge is to advance an understanding of neural development and communication at a basic biological level. Like all animal model research, findings from mice studies represent just one piece of the complex puzzle of understanding neural development. Results from this challenge cannot be directly translated to humans.
We acknowledge there may be concerns about how this research relates to autism in humans. To be clear: this work focuses solely on understanding basic biological mechanisms of neural development through analysis of mice vocalisations. It is NOT intended for and CANNOT be used for human screening, diagnosis, or intervention. The challenge aims to contribute to the broader scientific understanding of neural development while recognising that autism in humans is far more complex than any animal model can represent.
